A young apprentice is helping a local insurance broker get social.

Liam Benson, 19, is working as an apprentice at Bennett Christmas Group in Burgess hill, where he is developing and implementing the firm’s social media campaign.

Liam said “Before I joined Bennett Christmas I didn’t have a clue what insurance brokers did, to be honest.”

“It’s something most young people know nothing about and the perception is it’s boring, so I was really surprised when I got here. It can be as exciting as you want to make it.”

Mark Bennett, Bennett Christmas chief executive, said “Liam is the first apprentice the firm has hired, but his enthusiasm and creativity have been tremendous.”

“We knew social media was going to be crucial to the success of our new websites www.bennettchristmas.com and www.bc-uw.com when we launched them late last year. The sites are full of really relevant up-to-date advice and information that we wanted to get out to our customers and other brokers.”

“Using Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn was the best way of publicising this information but we are also using these networks to build relationships with clients – particularly the younger generation.”
